Mirror-Finish colored stainless steel

Mirror-colored stainless steel is a high-end mirror decorative metal material made through a combined process of ultra-precise mechanical grinding and polishing and PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) vacuum ion coating. After undergoing multiple levels of mirror polishing (8K/10K/12K), its reflectivity reaches up to 90% to 98%, allowing for clear reflection of human figures and scenes. Through the PVD vacuum coating technology, nano-scale colored metal compound films are deposited on the mirror base material, creating a luxurious visual effect of "color within the mirror and mirror within the color". Its core features are: extremely high reflectivity, vivid metallic color, and ultimate smoothness and glossiness. The combination of these three elements enhances the sense of space, allows for full reflection of light, and creates an open, transparent, and luxurious visual experience.

Production Principle

Mirror polishing process:

  • 8K mirror: Can clearly reflect the reflection of scenes 8 meters away, with a reflection rate of ≥ 90%, which is the mainstream specification in the market;

  • 10K/12K mirror: Utilizing finer grinding media and longer grinding time, the reflection rate can reach 98%, approaching the level of optical lenses. The processing cost is approximately 30% to 50% higher than that of 8K. 

PVD vacuum coating coloring process

The polished plates are sent into the vacuum coating furnace. The vacuum is reduced to below 10⁻² Pa, and argon gas and reaction gases (such as nitrogen, acetylene, oxygen, etc.) are introduced. Using electron beam or magnetron sputtering, the titanium, zirconium, chromium and other high-purity metal targets are bombarded. The metal ions deposit on the mirror substrate and combine with the reaction gases to form an ultra-thin and dense colored compound film layer with a thickness of only 0.3 to 0.5 μm. 

Post-processing protection

After the PVD coloring process is completed, a nano anti-fingerprint coating (AF anti-fingerprint coating) can be applied as needed, creating a hydrophobic and oleophobic surface, which further enhances the stain resistance and ease of daily maintenance. The entire process is free of paint and does not produce heavy metal wastewater, meeting RoHS/REACH environmental standards.

The mirror surface reflection rate of 8K is ≥ 90%, and 12K can reach 98%. The mirror image is clear and distortion-free. 3. Molecular-level bonding, never peeling

The PVD film layer is "grown" on the substrate surface in a high-energy ion bombardment process in a vacuum environment, rather than simple physical attachment. The film layer has a molecular/atomic metallurgical bond with the stainless steel substrate, and there will be no problems such as paint peeling or electroplating peeling.

4. Color lasting and non-fading

The indoor environment can ensure no fading or color change for over 20 years. The film layer is dense and has no pores, effectively isolating the substrate from the erosion of moisture, oxygen, and chemical pollutants in the air. In outdoor environments, it is recommended to pair with a fingerprint-free coating to cope with long-term ultraviolet radiation.

5. Super strong anti-corrosion and salt spray resistance

The mirror polishing makes the surface extremely smooth and dense. Combined with the physical isolation effect of the PVD film layer, it can withstand 500-800 hours of neutral salt spray tests. Materials such as 304/316L can be adapted to high-corrosion environments such as coastal areas, high humidity, and chemical plant areas.

6. Anti-fingerprint and easy cleaning

Optional nano AF anti-fingerprint coating with a hydrophobic angle of ≥ 110° can effectively resist fingerprints and oil stains. Daily cleaning only requires a soft dry cloth to gently wipe to restore the mirror surface's luster, without the need for special maintenance agents.

7. Environmentally friendly and recyclable

The entire process is free of paint, electroplating wastewater, and harmful heavy metals such as hexavalent chromium. It is environmentally friendly. The product is 100% recyclable and reusable, meeting international green building assessment standards such as LEED and BREEAM.

8. Retains metal texture

The transparent PVD film layer does not cover the luster and texture of the mirror base. The color presents a transparent and advanced sense of high quality "emerging from the metal interior", which is an authentic metal mirror surface aesthetics that cannot be replaced by painting, film coating, or electroplating.
