Two-Tone colored stainless steel

The dual-color colored stainless steel is a high-end decorative metal material made through the PVD vacuum ion coating + precise shielding area color coating process. Production Principle

1. PVD Vacuum Ion Coating (Basic Coloring)

In a high vacuum environment of 10⁻³ Pa, through medium-frequency magnetron sputtering or multi-arc ion plating technology, high-purity titanium, chromium, zirconium and other metal targets are excited into plasma state and deposited directionally onto the surface of stainless steel substrate, forming a dense nano-ceramic film layer with a thickness of approximately 0.15–1 μm. The hardness of a single color layer can reach above HV800–1800, forming a molecular-level bond with the substrate and showing excellent adhesion performance. 

2. Precise Masked Partition Technology (Two-color Molding)

The core of the two-color effect lies in "precise partitioning". On the same sheet of material, different color areas are isolated through different process schemes:

· Fixture Masking Method: Using self-developed metal fixtures combined with nano anti-reflective coating to precisely protect the first color area. After the first round of PVD coloring, the masking is removed, and then the exposed area is colored again for the second round of coloring to achieve integrated two-color molding. This is particularly suitable for high-end materials with fine lines and straight boundaries.

· Component Coloring Assembly Method: Different color areas are separated into independent components for coloring separately. Then, through precise mechanical structures or seamless welding processes, they are combined into a whole, resulting in higher yield and more stable color difference control.

· Laser Depostription/Etching Color Separation Method: First, the base color is fully coated. Then, using laser selective removal to expose the original base color of the substrate, or etching patterns and then performing secondary coloring, is suitable for fine two-color effects such as text logos and complex patterns. 

3. Color Presentation Principle

The dual-color effect is formed by the inherent color of the PVD film layer (such as TiN presenting a golden color, TiC presenting a black color, and TiCN presenting a rose gold color) and the optical interference effect of the film. During the production process, by precisely controlling the ratio of different regions of the target materials, the ratio of reaction gases (N₂/CH₄/O₂), and the deposition parameters, a stable and clear color zoning effect can be achieved. 

4. Post-processing - Anti-fingerprint Coating

After the dual-color molding process is completed, a nano-level AF anti-fingerprint coating is applied to the surface, which not only provides effective protection for the dual-color layer but also gives the surface the properties of being hydrophobic and oleophobic, as well as easy to clean. Subsequently, through low-temperature plasma densification treatment, the molecular-level fusion at the junction of the dual-color layer is further strengthened, which can significantly enhance the weather resistance during long-term use and delay the occurrence of fading and oxidation phenomena.

The dense ceramic film layer forms a complete physical isolation barrier, with a neutral salt spray test duration of 500~800+ hours without rusting, and it is resistant to high and low temperatures (-40℃~120℃), resistant to oil stains, sweat, and chemical cleaners, suitable for harsh environments such as coastal, high humidity, and high-frequency usage.

4. Extremely high design freedom

It supports the realization of "color + texture" dual zoning expression on the same sheet of material - for example, mirror titanium gold area + brushed gun gray area, sandblasted rose gold area + etched black titanium area, providing designers with an unprecedented creative space.

6. Retains the original metal texture

The film layer is ultra-thin and transparent/semi-transparent, does not cover the original textures such as brushed, mirror, sandblasted of the stainless steel substrate, and under the dual-color contrast, the metal texture becomes more transparent and advanced.
